Welcome to Editors Victoria

Editors Victoria is the Victorian branch of IPEd.

What our branch offers

We offer a range of benefits to our full and associate members:

We host regular branch meetings featuring guest speakers on a variety of topics from across the editing and publishing industries and to provide opportunities for networking. The meetings are usually held on a weekday evening at a venue in the Melbourne CBD or at a suburban venue. The admission fee includes food (generally a buffet, or canapes/finger food with vegetarian options) and a complimentary glass of beer, wine, sparkling wine or soft drink (cash bar also available).

Non-members are welcome. Members of Editors Victoria and affiliate organisations receive discounts on the general admission price.

See details and book current events on the IPEd events page (filter for events held by the Victorian branch).

Freelance lunches

Lunches for freelance editors are held throughout the year and offer a fantastic opportunity for freelancers to meet and network with colleagues.

Freelance lunches are held roughly every three months, often at The Fitz Cafe, 347 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. The regular menu is online, and the manager will add some vegan specials if given notice. We’re happy to visit other places too – let us know where you’d like to meet, and we can look for a suitable venue.

Book your place through the IPEd events page, and please bring cash to pay for your lunch.

Training and professional development

Editors Victoria offers half-day and one-day courses from February to November each year in editing skills, technical skills, business skills and editing genres. These are supplemented by webinars run by IPEd. We also offer courses to prepare members for the IPEd accreditation exam in relevant years and a small number of other courses.

Non-members are welcome. Members of Editors Victoria and affiliate organisations receive discounts on the general admission price.

See details and book current events on the IPEd events page (filter for events held by the Victorian branch).

The IPEd Mentoring Program for editors offers the opportunity for members to improve their editing skills with professional oversight and feedback from experienced editors. It provides a two-way learning experience for both mentor and mentee, which can encourage deep satisfaction and numerous benefits in many personal, career, organisational and developmental areas. See details at IPEd Mentoring or email edvic.mentorship@iped-editors.org.

Regional sub-groups

Editors Victoria also has regional sub-groups for members living in Ballarat and districts, Gippsland and Geelong. These groups hold irregular, informal meetings which are advertised through the IPEd newsletter.

Social media

We also let members know about our activities on our social media pages:

As well as receiving the current IPEd newsletter, members have access to the archives of the former newsletter of Editors Victoria, containing many articles on editing practice, reports on past events and editing resources and tips.

Our mission

We exist to advance the profession of editing by planning and implementing activities that support our members.

If you are interested in joining Editors Victoria as a professional, associate, student or corporate member, please read more on the IPEd Become a Member page.

The committee of Editors Victoria meets monthly. You can see a list of our committee and find out more here.

We are always looking for new committee members to bring fresh ideas and energy to the mix. If you are interested in becoming a member of the committee, please let us know (edvic.president@iped-editors.org). You don't need to have been a member for decades, but you do need to have been around long enough to like us, have some idea of how we tick and want to be more closely involved.

Our affiliate organisations are Writers Victoria, Australian Society for Technical Communication (ASTC), Australian and New Zealand Society of Indexers (ANZSI) and Australian Publishers Association (APA). Members of affiliate organisations receive discounted admission to our events.
