EdsQ celebrates via Zoom

This month we didn’t have our usual member meeting on the first Wednesday because we had something special in the works: a Zoom presentation to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Editors Queensland (previously the Society of Editors Queensland). You can read more about it below, but it went off with a (virtual) bang, and we were very pleased to welcome a couple of founding members: Carol Boulanger and Laurie Muller.

In membership news, EdsQ currently has 253 active financial members. During October we welcomed professional member Amanda Morgan and associate members Meredith Anderson, Meaghan Sexton-Dhamu, Angela Spiegel and Nicole Hill. Please keep an eye out for them on Zoom or other virtual gathering spaces and make them feel welcome.

Our next event is the picnic in January, so watch your inboxes for notification of that.

From all of us on the EdsQ branch committee, have a lovely break over the holiday period and we wish you and yours the best of health. Here’s to a brighter 2021.

EdsQ 30th anniversary

This is a brief note about the very special members’ meeting (by Zoom, of course) that marked the 30th anniversary of EdsQ, the Queensland branch of IPEd. The branch started as the Society of Editors, then evolved into Editors Queensland, which then was absorbed into the structure of IPEd as the Queensland branch.

Kerry Davies and Glenine Hamlyn identified the many branch highlights — and occasional lows — over the 30 years. Christine Atkinson and Ruth Davies discussed the 2017 conference hosted in Brisbane by EdsQ; this very successful conference marked a milestone in the foundations of IPEd as the member professional body.

Ian Mathieson presented a list of the honorary life members of EdsQ, paying tribute to their contribution to the profession and to IPEd. With a change in emphasis to the future, Desolie Page, Gail Tarrago and Charlotte Cottier reviewed the part played in IPEd and the value brought to members by the IPEd accreditation process. They recognised its increasing future significance and lightly touched on possible adaptations.

Hosted by Julia Sudull, the meeting was a valuable moment for pause and reflection about the journey to the 30th anniversary and for expressing confidence in the future of EdsQ and IPEd.

A big thank you to our events team: Ian Mathieson, Lee Ellwood and Kayt Duncan who organised this historic event and pulled all the various parts (and people) together. Your contribution and guidance on running order and presentations were invaluable.
