Message from CEO Karen Lee

Welcome to the July issue of Gatherings

This is the fourth issue of the IPEd-wide newsletter and it has been gradually evolving and improving.

We love to hear feedback from the members about what you like (or don’t) about Gatherings, so please keep your comments rolling in.

Launching the IPEd-wide newsletter has been a mammoth task, so thank you to all those who have participated in getting the newsletter to this point. Thanks to Marie Pietersz, who spearheaded production of the first three issues as Newsletter Editor, including establishing processes, templates, and a style sheet; members of the Communications Working Party, who played a major role in the launch; Communications Consultant Kate Tilley; and  most importantly  the volunteer contributors from across IPEd’s branches, steering committees and working parties who write the great content we can share every month with our fellow members. Thank you all for your considerable efforts.

Congratulations again to Joan Gladwyn, Website Coordinator for Editors Aotearoa New Zealand, who was responsible for the newsletter’s title, Gatherings. Many thanks to Scribe Publications, who generously donated a copy of a new book, The Fogging, by Luke Horton, which we have forwarded to Joan as a prize for her efforts.

Strategic plan July 2020 to June 2023

The IPEd Board has spent the past three months discussing IPEd’s strategic plan for the next three years (July 2020 to June 2023). I’m looking forward to sharing it with our members in the coming weeks.

Ambassador program

We’d like to remind Ambassadors that we have six months left on the program. We would love as many of you as possible to get out there and spread the word about what editors do.

Nicole Mathers is currently getting in touch with libraries and writers’ centres about hosting our Ambassadors. For more information, please contact her at

Branch logos

IPEd will soon roll out new branch logos that will assist in more closely unifying the IPEd family across Australia and New Zealand.

Branches’ former logos will be archived on their pages of the website and within newsletters that are being archived in MemNet and the National edeposit, a collaboration between Australia’s nine national, state and territory libraries that provides for the legal deposit, management, storage and preservation of, and access to, published electronic material.

Warm regards
Karen Lee
Chief Executive Officer
