News from CEO Karen Lee

IPEd has been active on a range of fronts since the last issue of Gatherings.

Here’s a snapshot of some of the activities.

Nominations open for the Mackenzie

The Janet Mackenzie Medal is IPEd’s highest award.

It is given to an outstanding professional editor who has lifted the standard of the editing profession and/or given exemplary service to IPEd. Any member of IPEd can nominate another member.

The award honours Janet Mackenzie DE (1947–2018). Janet was an Honorary Life Member (and founding member) of Editors Victoria and served IPEd in many capacities over many years, including as a member of the first Standards Working Group, 1998–2001, and on the Style Manual 7th Edition Steering Group, a current working party of IPEd, from which she resigned only weeks before her death in September 2018.

For more details about the Mackenzie, please see the nomination guidelines, the nomination template, and an outline of the Janet Mackenzie Medal criteria.

Digital Style Manual sparks interest

The Digital Transformation Agency is seeking feedback on the Beta Style Manual. Members can use the forms on each page to comment.

IPEd’s Style Manual 7th Edition Steering Group has played an active role in its development.
This is the first edition of Style Manual in 18 years, so there’s likely to be intense interest. Read DTA’s article about its digital manual.

Responses to IPEd’s letter about tertiary education

IPEd has received a response from Shadow Minister for Education and Training Tanya Plibersek to its email to Education Minister Dan Tehan about proposed increases to university fees for students in the areas of the arts, society and culture, law, economics, creative arts and communications. Here’s her response [PDF].

And Minister Tehan’s office has also replied. Here’s the response [PDF].
