IPEd Prize 2016 winner announced

Posted on: 14 May 2017

The IPEd Prize 2016 was awarded to Robyn Williams for her essay, Defamation laws: A tale of two civil actions which was written as part of her studies for a Master of Communication from Deakin University.

Judges’ comments noted that it ‘is written with both a narrative arc and stylistic flair, demonstrating a story-telling sensibility that makes it particularly engaging’, it ‘handles technical material well for the lay reader’ and it exhibits an ‘excellent use of a wide range of recent secondary sources, which are all properly documented and well incorporated into the essay’.

While the judges had reservations about how relevant the topic is to most working editors, this is not one of the criteria they were asked to judge. Furthermore, they acknowledge that defamation is a critical issue for editors working in particular areas of the industry, and something of which most editors would require a general knowledge.

Robyn has kindly made her essay available on the IPEd website.
