National directory of freelance editors launched

The Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) is thrilled to announce the launch of the Editors Directory, a national list of freelance editors, who are professional members of IPEd, available for a variety of freelance editing assignments.
The Editors Directory can be found on this website on the Find an Editor listing.
‘Whether you’re an author of a work of fiction, a memoir, annual report, academic thesis or website, the IPEd Editors Directory lists a number of editors available for you to contact regarding your editing assignment,’ said IPEd CEO Karen Lee.
‘Hosted on the IPEd website, the Editors Directory brings together the details of freelancers listed on state-based societies’ websites around Australia, and lists them so they can be searched using specific criteria. It is now possible to search for an editor based on, among other things, the services they provide, their subject matter expertise and where they are in Australia,’ she added.
Authors have been asking for a ‘one-stop shop’ where they can find an editor with the appropriate experience and knowledge for their particular assignment. With the technology and sharing tools available now, editors and authors can collaborate nationally and the best person for a particular assignment could be based anywhere in Australia.
IPEd believes this is the first time a list of this size and nature has been available in Australia.
The establishment of the Editors Directory has been made possible through last year’s restructure from a former peak body for seven state and territory societies of editors, to a national direct membership body. The Canberra Society of Editors (CSE), though still aligned with IPEd, is not yet a branch and retains its own directory of freelance editors.
