Perth conference, April 2013
Posted on: 15 October 2012
The IPEd National Editors Conference is held every two years in a different state of Australia.
It is Western Australia’s turn in 2013, and we are very excited to be able to host this special event.
We anticipate attracting 150 to 200 participants, who will travel from international destinations (especially South-East Asia and New Zealand), from all other states, and from throughout Western Australia.
Editors are obviously our focus, but we know that this role has expanded to encompass professionals in many fields, including education, government, science, publishing, PR, media, training, self-publishing, and corporate and non-profit organisations. We also encourage people from associated professions to attend, including graphic designers, website designers, writers, illustrators, publishers, trainers, teachers, librarians, scientists, journalists and marketing/PR professionals.
Because of Perth’s isolation from other capital cities and its proximity to Asia, we aim to attract participants in the region using the theme of ‘Editing across borders’ as a springboard for discussion. Topics include editing for people whose first language is not English, translation, and Indigenous publishing, as well as editing for particular genres such as the web, scientific journals and fiction.
The conference will bring together key players in the international and domestic industry to share current and emerging practices in editing and publishing.
Importantly, we want to create an atmosphere of interaction and engagement for the conference. We are very excited to have signed up Nury Vittachi and Will Yeoman as keynote speakers. Another huge coup that we can announce is that Don Watson will be a keynote speaker.
