We’re celebrating, and thanking, IPEd volunteers this month. Did you know volunteering comes with lots of fantastic benefits? In this month’s feature story, we explore those benefits and hear from some of our wonderful volunteers on the benefits they receive from volunteering.
We recently caught up with Camha Pham, recipient of the IPEd Scholarship for the APA’s Residential Editorial Program, to discuss the value of professional development, Camha’s takeaways from the program and her advice to anyone thinking of applying.

A reminder: if you passed the accreditation exam in 2009 or 2014, it’s time to renew your accreditation. Applications for renewal are open from 1 May to 31 July. Australian and New Zealand editors have a long history of volunteering in support of their industry. If not for their efforts, we wouldn’t have an accreditation exam, the IPEd standards for editing practice or any of the valuable and practical tools and resources developed by our standing committees and working parties.
“IPEd’s volunteers are at the heart of our organisation, whether they’re bringing their ideas to the fascinating branch speaker programs, their energy to local member gatherings, or their extensive experience to our policy development, research and advocacy,” IPEd Chair Stephanie Holt said.
In 2023, Camha Pham was awarded the IPEd Scholarship for the Australian Publishers Association’s 2024 Residential Editorial Program (REP), a week-long mentorship opportunity for mid-career editors.
We caught up with Camha after she attended REP in late April to discuss the value of professional development, her takeaways from the program and her advice to anyone thinking of applying.
