Ever wished there were some simple, seamless tricks that would speed up your editing? Ever wished you could stay in the flow of your copyediting while tackling routine fixes, standardising and checks? Using macros – and using them smartly – could be the answer. And macros not only speed up your editing but can also reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries.

We are therefore thrilled to offer a repeat of two IPEd workshops for Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand editors who use Word. “Macros 101: boost your productivity” is a two-part workshop presented by Paul Beverley and Jennifer Yankopolus with custom versions, one for Mac users and one for PC users. One IPEd member called it the “most useful of any IPEd workshop I have attended”.

“If you love editing but find certain parts of the job tedious at times, Macros 101 could be the answer you did not even know you were looking for.”

Paul is a legend in editing circles. Dubbed the “King of Macros”, he has designed and freely distributed over 600 macros. These speed up everything from checking a word in your preferred dictionary to changing dashes to your preferred style. Paul’s co-presenter in this workshop, Jennifer Yankopolus, is a highly experienced editor and trainer whose Macro of the month newsletter is a must-read for editors.

As one attendee described them, Paul and Jennifer are “macro masters who have managed to transform the mystery of how macros work into an engaging and informative workshop – at a level that is achievable for beginners”.

The first workshop session includes an overview, demonstrations, practical exercises and homework tasks, while the second session is a highly interactive workshop offering discussion, homework follow-up and answers to all your questions.

And remember that Paul is continually updating his macro library, and responding to requests and feedback from working editors. So even if you’d done previous training, this workshop will introduce you to new and updated macros.
