Beloved by readers across the world, Graeme Simsion is the bestselling author of 13 books, most notably The Rosie Project series, which has sold over 6 million copies in 42 languages. So, it was with much excitement that we welcomed Graeme to speak at our 2024 end-of-year event at The Moat Café and Restaurant in Melbourne. He was joined by his partner and co-author, Anne Buist.
With a glass of wine in hand, Graeme entertained the rapt audience with stories about his experiences with editors – “the good, the bad, the infuriating, the inspiring and the truly strange”. The pictures taken by photographer Brian Ellwood capture the crowd’s delight.
Throughout the evening, there were giveaways including a signed copy of Graeme and Anne’s latest book, The glass house; a T2 tea and books set donated by our Editors Victoria secretary, Donald Ritchie; and book bundles donated by our communications officer, Cecile Shanahan. (Many thanks to the following publishers who provided the books to Cecile: UQP, Thames & Hudson, Hardie Grant Explore, Fremantle Press, Allen & Unwin and HarperCollins.) Graeme joined in the prize-giving fun by handing out copies of his books – all of which he personally addressed and signed – to thrilled guests.
Graeme proved a popular drawcard to members and non-members alike, including a few Writers Victoria members who were able to take advantage of the new reciprocal benefits.
A huge thanks to Graeme, Anne and our photographer, Brian, as well as my committee colleagues who helped make the evening successful.
