From the President

By the time you read my words, the 2021 conference will be over, and I hope those of you who attended had an enjoyable and productive time.
This will be my second IPEd conference and this time around I participated with the thought of how we will run our conference in 2023. You will have seen by now that the theme of our conference is ‘future proofing’, where we will look ahead to how we will be working, what the editing profession will be like and ways of equipping ourselves for the ever-changing world.
I want to thank everyone who sent in video clips of themselves for our conference-launch video presentation. Like many of you, I like being behind the desk and in the back room. But we seemed to enjoy ourselves, getting out and finding a spot to say kia ora. The weather wasn’t on anyone’s side (thinking of all-day fog in Twizel, blustery wind and rain in Auckland) but we got some clips that represented the diverse places where New Zealand editors work, and that was what we wanted.
This month the committee will have its first strategic planning session. The business of sorting through your responses from the survey is a big job. In fact, contacting you all was a big job. If you are one of the handful of people who didn’t manage to get back to us, it’s not too late to have your say about the direction the branch should take. And if we did speak to you but you remembered something extra you wanted to add, feel free to drop me a quick email at edanz.president@iped-editors.org.

Wellington editors’ catch-up

Venue: Frank’s Coffee and Eats, 116 The Terrace
This is held every two months on the first Tuesday of the month. All editors in the Wellington area, whether resident or visiting, are welcome to join us at Frank’s on the Terrace for this informal social event. This is your chance to get out of the house or office and meet other editors.

Auckland editors’ catch-up

You spoke and we listened.
During our phone survey, some Auckland members said they would like a weekday catch-up instead of a weekend one. So we are bringing the September and March Auckland editors catch-ups forward from Saturday afternoon to a Friday morning.
Any editors are welcome to come along, whether Auckland residents or visitors. We’re a friendly bunch and always welcome new faces.
