President’s report
by Margaret Trudgeon AE
I’ve just come home from another invigorating Editors Victoria lunch at Arcadia in Fitzroy. We all enjoyed a good chat among a range of attendees, from brand new student members to long-standing member editors.
We chatted about a whole range of topics, including editing poetry, what work people are taking on at the moment and who is going to the upcoming IPEd conference in Adelaide at the end of July (more about that in a minute). We got one of the staff to take a photo of us before we had lunch – one person is missing as he was still in transit.
April is a busy month for the committee, as plans start to turn into real events. We have two offerings this month: a workshop on editing under pressure with Pamela Hewitt on 24 April, and a speaker event on 29 April on editing annual reports with Kristalee Ransley. See the fortnightly events bulletin for more information on both of these informative events.
In committee news, I’m sad to advise that our current student advisor has had to step down, so we’re looking for an eager current student to fill the position for the remainder of the term (until September). Thanks to Anita Spooner for your time in the role. If you or someone you know is interested in the position, please contact me at Editors Victoria (edvic.president@iped-editors.org) and I can send you a position description. As an incentive, we will cover the cost of an IPEd student membership for the successful applicant for one year.
If you’re curious about the conference, earlybird bookings are now open (until 31 May), and you can find out more information about the conference via the IPEd website. I’m looking forward to heading over to Adelaide for a few days to catch up on the latest developments in the industry, as well as meet lots of people I’ve only talked to via Zoom!
To assist those members who would like to attend but who are facing hardship, or are a current editing student, Editors Victoria will be offering a subsidy, as we’ve done in past years. We’ll be sending out a letter to all Victorian members in the next couple of weeks to fill everyone in on the terms and conditions. There will be a limited number of subsidies available.
In the meantime, have a relaxing Easter, everyone!
