President’s report

Kia ora,

Best wishes to those sitting the accreditation exam in August! We have three EdANZ members sitting the exam in Wellington, and one person sitting remotely.

I hope it goes well and you’re able to celebrate afterwards.

After my exam in 2022, my partner took me out for dinner, though I was so drained I couldn’t hold up my side of the conversation!

Studying for the exam meant I brushed up on many aspects of editing, especially grammar. I still refer to my exam notes; they have ended up being a helpful quick guide for many of my editing questions.

Thank you to Elizabeth Beattie AE for representing EdANZ on the Accreditation Board. Your work is much appreciated!

We welcomed Pania Tahau-Hodges back to our screens at the end of July. Pania hosted her workshop “Editing Maori-language text in English-language publication”. Pania is a wonderful speaker and teacher. I’ve come away with many notes and suggestions for my own processes and for my clients. Watch out for September’s Gatherings, where we’ll have an event report.

Ngā mihi,

Deborah Shaw AE
