Organisational membership

IPEd’s organisational membership is open to organisations engaged in all aspects of editing for online and print publishing and those with an interest in editing, publishing or a related field, including publishers, tertiary education institutions and government.

An organisational membership is an investment in your business, institution or department and in your employees.

As an IPEd organisational member, your staff will be part of a strong community of Australian and New Zealand editors supported by a professional association dedicated to advancing the profession of editing, promoting the value of editing and supporting our members, whether freelance, in-house or organisational.

Explore the benefits of an IPEd organisational membership and review the three categories of organisational membership to determine which one is right for your organisation.

If you have requirements not covered by any category of organisational membership, please contact us.

Whitireia Publishing

Whitireia New Zealand has been offering NZQA-accredited publishing and editing training in Aotearoa New Zealand for more than thirty years.

We offer a Graduate Diploma in Publishing (Applied) and micro-credentials in editing. Our courses are developed and run in partnership with the industry, and our graduates have an excellent employment rate, both nationally and internationally.

Our highly regarded diploma is modelled on an apprenticeship in publishing, focusing on practical experience and industry connections. All tutors are experienced industry practitioners. Students complete work placements in publishing firms and learn from guest speakers from all aspects of the publishing ecosystem. They also work in groups to publish real projects – covering all the tasks from project planning and management, through editing and typesetting, to publicity and marketing.

Our editing micro-credentials were developed with the aim of creating a flexible, easy-to-access training and professional development option. They are delivered online, and designed for self-directed, self-paced study. As such, they are perfect for people already in the workplace who want to sharpen or develop their language skills, as well as anyone wanting to learn more about the art and practicalities of editing.

Micro-credentials are smaller than a qualification and are designed to meet the needs of employers, industry and/or communities. Whitireia Publishing’s micro-credentials cover:

Plain English Foundation

Our ISO-aligned editing system transforms writing at work into writing that works. Our clear communication techniques speed up decision-making, streamline processes and avoid confusion. They get results. Every document, every day.

We help you create:

  • shorter reports that save readers time and effort
  • simpler proposals with clear recommendations that managers can act on
  • concise letters that tell customers exactly what they need to do
  • well-designed templates that significantly reduce drafting time
  • clearer webpages that readers find easy to navigate.

Our accredited editors are qualified, highly skilled professionals with extensive editing experience and professional experience in other sectors. And we know that no 2 clients are the same. Rather than selling off-the-shelf services with fixed prices and timelines, we tailor our work to ensure we’re cost efficient and effective.

We offer 4 services:

  • in-depth editing
  • writing and style guides
  • template development
  • writing evaluation.

In-depth editing is a fast fix for any text. Our editors will make sure your text is clear, reader-friendly and precise. We edit everything from fact sheets and web pages to reports, policies and contracts.

Writing and style guides are the tools to support your team. We develop guides covering how to write briefs, letters, reports, decision documents and more. And our style guides cover everything from inclusive language to lists.

Template development clarifies your message every time. Our templates show writers how to structure their material so that it persuades the reader. Save staff time with templates for texts you write often, such as briefs, letters, reports or legal advices.

Writing evaluation gives you specialist advice when you need it. Our analysis pinpoints what works well and what you can improve, within a single document or across your entire organisation. We recommend clear, specific and doable changes.

Over the past 20 years, we’ve worked with government and corporate clients to help them write with efficiency and purpose.

At a federal level, we’ve worked with Prime Minister and Cabinet, Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australian Tax Office, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, National Disability Insurance Scheme, and Services Australia.

At a state level, we’ve worked with the departments of Premier and Cabinet in NSW and Victoria, Community Service (NSW), Education (ACT, Qld), Health (SA), Health and Human Services (Tas), and Justice and Community Safety (Vic).

Our corporate clients include Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Gilbert + Tobin, Holding Redlich, King & Wood Mallesons Turks Legal, AIA, CBA, Macquarie Bank, MLC, QBE, Suncorp and TAL.

We also work with not-for-profit organisations, including the Asylum Seekers Centre, Cancer Council, World Wildlife Fund, MusicNSW and SDN Children’s Services.

Contact us today to:

  • lift the quality of briefs and recommendations to send up the approval chain
  • shorten reports or technical documents
  • prevent readers from overlooking or misunderstanding key points
  • ensure people follow policies and procedures
  • reduce follow-up calls after you send out letters.
