From the president
In late September, I accepted the mantle of the president of Editors South Australia, succeeding Melanie Dankel. I’d like to extend sincere thanks to Melanie who led the committee through the uncertainty of a post-COVID world. Her enthusiasm and passion has been inspiring, and we are grateful to have her remain on our committee as the membership officer.
I’d also like to thank our outgoing committee member Tina Morganella for her hard work organising our events. And a big welcome to our new committee members: Kerrie Le Lievre and Bridgett McDonald.
I come from a background of biomedical science and currently work as a clinical trial coordinator, while my passion for words and language led me to freelance fiction editing. I love the balance between the scientific and the creative that my roles provide, and I am also fascinated by the interface between these professions. I’m excited about becoming the next president of Editors South Australia, and the committee and I look forward to a productive and exciting year ahead.
Planning is under way for our end-of-year picnic in the Botanic Gardens on 4 December and our end-of-year drinks at The Kentish on 15 December. Fingers crossed for nice weather, and I hope to see a few of you there!
I would also like to encourage more of our members to become involved. You don’t have to have heaps of experience to volunteer! Our ideas can’t take shape without the help of our members, and it’s a great way to gain exposure to different aspects of editing and the work of IPEd. Please let us know what you would like to see Editors SA doing – especially if you live outside Adelaide. We understand not everyone can volunteer large blocks of time, so we welcome people who might just want to see what it’s all about, can help out on a more casual basis or have an interest in a specific area.
