From the Australian and New Zealand Society of Indexers
The Australian and New Zealand Society of Indexers (ANZSI) is offering scholarships of A$1,000 for enrolment and completion in an approved indexing course. One year of ANZSI membership will also be provided to the successful applicant.

If you would like to test your interest, see Indexing Books as a Career, a free course on Canvas Network. This free course is intended for individuals interested in exploring a possible indexing career, as well as for authors and editors who work with indexers.
Eligibility criteria
You must fulfill the following requirements:
- Residency: Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
- Availability: Ready to commence indexing studies, in an approved course, within four months of receiving scholarship.
- Equipment: Own or have unlimited access to a PC or laptop with internet access enabling completion of the course.
Approved indexing educational programs
- Indexing: Theory and Application (University of California Berkeley Extension Indexing Course). This online course teaches “the fundamentals of writing, editing, and delivering back-of-the-book indexes to publishing clients”, as well as embedded and web indexing. - Society of Indexers (UK) Training Course (Modules A and B). The Society of Indexers runs its online course, “Training in Indexing”, which consists of four assessed modules plus a practical indexing assignment. - Scholarship applicants who wish to enrol in courses other than those listed here may include that request in their application for consideration of the ANZSI Scholarship Committee.
Conditions
- Ready to commence course within four months of announcement of successful scholarship recipient.
- Completion of your chosen course within the timeline stipulated by the course convenors and as agreed to by the ANZSI Council.
- Payment of scholarship money: 50% on receipt of proof of enrolment and 50% upon successful completion of program.
