IPEd

Message from your CEO Karen Lee

Dear member,

We are thrilled to welcome you to the first IPEd-wide newsletter.

What would you like to call this newsletter? We welcome your ideas on a name that reflects the newsletter’s purpose, medium of communication and role as a reliable resource to keep members across Australia and New Zealand informed and connected.

This is an opportunity to put your stamp on IPEd’s main communique with members and stakeholders. So, hit us with your suggestions.

Entries will be judged by the Communications Working Party (CWP). Please send entries to Kate Tilley, Communications Consultant, at communication@iped-editors.org by 21 April 2020. The winner will be announced in the May newsletter.

In this new layout for the newsletter, you can access news from your particular branch right after the message from the CEO. We would be interested to hear feedback from you on whether the format works for you, or how we can improve.

Welcome to Marie Pietersz, who has joined IPEd as our newsletter editor.

IPEd’s response to COVID-19

IPEd has been actively communicating with members about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and we will continue to do so as the situation progresses. We understand how important it is to keep you updated on what IPEd is doing to assist and support our members at this uncertain time.

The pandemic has forced numerous organisations to postpone or cancel their events. The Australian Publishers Association has postponed its 10th Residential Editorial Program (REP 2020) in Sydney until Monday 30 November – Saturday 5 December 2020. The revised deadline for applications is Friday 30 July 2020. Read more.

IPEd and Biotext–Macquarie sign MoU

During March we announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IPEd and Biotext Pty Ltd andMacquarie University, as joint publishers of the Australian manual of style and the website StyleHub.

This important partnership will provide IPEd members with access to quality resources across Australia and New Zealand.

IPEd members will be entitled to reduced rates on the Australian manual of style and have access to all StyleHub resources. By participating in the surveys, members can assist in shaping resources to suit professional editors’ needs.

The IPEd board and I have been working on the MoU with the publishers since mid-2019 and I am delighted it has come to fruition.

I expect it to be a long and rewarding partnership for both IPEd and Biotext–Macquarie and look forward to providing more information as the partnership progresses. Read more. Here is our media release about the announcement.

SfEP transitions to CIEP

We congratulate our UK partner organisation, the Society for Editing Professionals (SfEP), for rebranding their association to the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). We wish them all the best. There will be more details on the transition in the May newsletter.

Warm regards
