CEO commends our first online conference organisers
What a fantastic effort for our 10th IPEd Editors Conference and first on-line conference.
Congratulations to all the presenters and a big thankyou to all our delegates.
Our presenters were wonderful in adapting to an online format with such ease, and thanks go to our branch Presidents, IPEd’s Board of Directors and Chair Ruth Davies, whose invaluable support to IPEd and the office team enabled us to host the conference.
We were fortunate to have delegates from across Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, South Africa, France, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
The shifting landscape in publishing and communications since the pandemic has meant organisations like IPEd are all the more vital in upholding the importance of professional standards and demonstrating the ability to pivot in order to respond to the needs of our members.
I can’t think of a more fitting theme for this year’s conference – Editing on the edges – as we looked to the future to keep members engaged and empowered by showcasing the best examples of professional practice and by shining a spotlight on emerging trends.
My thanks to the commitment and hard work of the conference organising committee, spearheaded by Conference Convenor Elizabeth Spiegel, and especially to Project Officer Tay Winchester for providing support and leadership in delivering our first online conference. I’d also like to thank the IPEd staff, Nicole Mathers, Kate Tilley and Erin Rundle, for all their work and support.
We’ll cover some conference presentations in future issues of Gatherings.
Australian standards for editing practice
IPEd invites all members and the wider publishing industry to submit revisions to the Australian standards for editing practice. Submissions are open now and close on 31 August 2021. Read more here.
Member discount at IngramSpark
IPEd members can now enjoy five free title setups from IngramSpark.
IngramSpark is an award-winning publishing platform that offers the indie-publishing community the same fully integrated print and digital products and global distribution services enjoyed by major publishers.
IngramSpark has offered IPEd members a limited-time promo code, valid until 31 December 2021, that gives members free title setup for print and e-books.
Members can access up to five free title setups until the end of the year.
Take advantage of this promotional code now, as it’s a use-it-or-lose it opportunity. IngramSpark will reassess making the offer again in 2022, depending on the usage in 2021.
Login to the member portal to access the code.
Member discount for CIEP conference
Bookings are now open for the 2021 Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) conference.
The UK-based conference will be held online via Zoom webinars on 11–14 September 2021.
CIEP is offering IPEd members a 20 per cent discount on the non-member rates to attend the conference.
The draft program is here. Details on how to book your discounted rate are on the member portal.
The conference will feature informative and entertaining sessions on a variety of subjects, including developing a marketing mindset, using Word styles, career development for freelancers and how to be a LinkedIn leader. There will also be opportunities to socialise and network, including a quiz.
Recordings of all the conference sessions will be available to delegates for a limited time after the conference.
Books + Publishing discount
The publication Books + Publishing, which has offered IPEd members a generous 25 per cent discount on regular subscription rates, has unfortunately had to reduce this to 10 per cent.
The reduction applies to all industry bodies and has occurred because B+P was purchased back from ProQuest in 2018.
B+P CEO Gary Pengelly has advised IPEd: ‘With the challenges of 2020 we ceased publication of the magazine and consolidated our efforts around the digital publications and daily delivery of industry news. B+P has returned to being a family-owned business and has been reporting on the Australian and New Zealand publishing industry for 100 years in 2021, relying on subscriptions to deliver news on a daily basis.’
Warm regards
