Events bulletin

You may have noticed a new weekly email popping up in your inbox.

On Friday 9 February we launched our events and workshops bulletin. This weekly bulletin will replace the emails that you previously received for individual events.

The bulletin grew out of feedback we received from members and branches on how we communicate information about events. We’re listening and we’re always looking for ways to improve how we keep you up to date with news from IPEd and the wider profession.

In other events news, we have plenty of fantastic events coming up, including preparation workshops for the accreditation exam, and a joint event with Canberra Society of Editors. More on that soon via our events bulletin and our social channels.

Several of these events will be recorded or repeated at a later date because we know that schedules don’t always line up. Keeping our events accessible to members is a key priority and we’ll continue to find ways to ensure you can get the most out of the professional development opportunities IPEd provides.

IPEd standards for editing practice

The IPEd Standards Working Party (ISWP) will launch the third edition of IPEd standards for editing practice later this month.

After a comprehensive two-year review and with input from the IPEd board, committees and members, and expert reviewers, the third edition of the Standards seeks to create a professional culture that:

  • supports editors to be champions for diversity, equity and inclusion
  • values the voices of the First Nations people of Australia and the Māori people of Aotearoa New Zealand

I’d like to thank the members of the ISWP for all their hard work. It’s been a mammoth task given it has been a decade since the second edition and so much has changed in the industry.

The Standards are really the cornerstone of IPEd and central to our role in supporting and promoting the editing profession.

Accreditation exam

Registrations for the 2024 accreditation exam are now open.

The Accreditation Board have been hard at work updating resources including the Guide for candidates and the sample exam documents

Exam preparation workshops are now taking bookings. These workshops are excellent preparation for the exam.

This year marks the 10th accreditation exam administered by IPEd! It’s an exciting milestone and testament to the commitment to professionalism and professional development that Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand editors consistently demonstrate.
