CEO’s message
The Pay Rates Working Party (PRWP) call for expressions of interest to join the group closes on Monday 10 May.
This is a great opportunity to help make a difference to the income and working conditions of editors, both in-house and freelance. In particular, the PRWP is looking for members who have a background working in-house or as a freelancer working directly with publishers. Members from Aotearoa New Zealand are especially invited to submit an expression of interest.
Check your inbox for an email from IPEd with more details. Send your expression of interest to secretary@iped-editors.org.

ATO Small Business Stewardship Group
After a successful pilot and extensive consultation, the Australian Taxation Office’s small business independent review service is now offered permanently as a dispute-resolution option for eligible small businesses with a turnover less than $10 million.
Many thanks to our member, who is on the Small Business Stewardship Group, for sharing this valuable information with IPEd.
The review provides small businesses that may disagree with an audit position about income tax and indirect tax obligations with an additional opportunity to resolve a dispute with the ATO.
Businesses that have an audit in progress will be offered the opportunity to request an independent review. All independent reviews are completed by an ATO officer who has not been involved in the audit and is from a separate area of the ATO. The review is completed before any assessment, or amended assessment, is issued.
For more information, go to Independent review for small business with turnover less than $10 million.
2021 Richell Prize for emerging writers
Hachette Australia, with the Richell family, has launched the Richell Prize for Emerging Writers for 2021, in partnership with the Emerging Writers’ Festival.
Now in its seventh year, the Richell Prize is open to unpublished writers of adult fiction and adult narrative non-fiction.
Writers do not need to have a full manuscript at the time of submission, though they must intend to complete one. The winner will receive $10,000 in prize money from Hachette Australia and a year’s mentoring with one of their publishers.
The prize closes on 9 July, so if you’ve written a manuscript you think might be eligible, go to www.emergingwritersfestival.org.au to find out more.
Kind regards
