NAPLAN review shows students’ deficiency in writing skills

Is writing being properly prioritised in the classroom after primary school?

A survey conducted by the authors of an opinion article published by The Conversation would suggest not.

Professor Claire Wyatt-Smith and Senior Research Officer Christine Jennifer Jackson, from the Australian Catholic University, responded to a report released about the review of the National Assessment Program — Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) test.

The article is ‘Writing needs to be taught and practised. Australian schools are dropping the focus too early’.

The authors’ findings suggest the value of editors will become increasingly clear as students enter the workforce with a lack of education in writing skills.
