IPEd will support one scholarship position for a freelance editor who is a member of IPEd to attend the 2024 REP.
The REP is a week-long mentorship opportunity for a mid-career editor. In 2024, the program will take place from Monday 29 April to Thursday 2 May in Manly, Sydney.
More information about the program and the 2024 guidelines and application form are available on the Australian Publishers Association (APA) website. Applications for the IPEd scholarship are included as part of the REP application process.
Applications close on Monday 20 November 2023 at 5.00 pm (AEDT).
Fifteen participants will be chosen by the organising committee on the basis of their applications. Successful applicants will be notified by 15 December 2023.
About REP
REP has become renowned in the Australian publishing industry as a defining professional development opportunity for editors. The program has run since 1999, with more than 100 Australian editors benefitting from the intensive workshops with highly experienced and respected industry experts.
Administered by the Australian Publishers Association and supported by Creative Australia and the publishing industry, the REP aims to enhance the standard of writing published in Australia by:
- Identifying and developing the professional skills of literary editors
- Enabling professional interaction and networking between editors
- Raising the profile of editors in the literary and publishing community
- Encouraging editors to establish and maintain good working relationships with authors
- Teaching editors to recognise the balance between the commitment to their authors with their publisher’s business expectations.
Selected REP editors attend daily sessions with a range of workshops and presentations delivered by guest speakers, while working hands-on with the selected manuscript. At the end of the week, the manuscript’s original editor explains the key decisions and changes made through their own editing process in bringing it to publication.
The program is open to Australian-based adult, YA and children’s book editors. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply, including people who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people with disability. Applications will also be welcomed from managing and commissioning editors seeking to refresh their skills.
