President’s report

By Deborah Shaw AE

Kia ora

Thank you to everyone who joined our annual branch meeting (ABM) at the start of October. Great to see so many familiar faces and some new ones too.

Our committee remains the same:

  • Branch president – Deborah Shaw
  • Membership officer – Joan Gladwyn
  • Secretary – Juanita Nieuwoudt
  • Newsletter coordinator – Jane Matthews
  • Budget officer – Rina Wongpanich

Liz Beattie AE continues to be our Accreditation Board representative, and Andrea McKay is on the Standing Committee on Awards and Prizes.

I’d like to give a big thank you to Joan, Juanita, Jane and Rina for their continued support. Your help on the committee is greatly appreciated. And thank you to Liz and Andrea for representing EdANZ and Aotearoa on your committees!

We also had guest speaker Claire Mabey talk about her life in books after the ABM. I hope you enjoyed her talk as much as I did, and I hope you liked the somewhat experimental format of having a guest speaker from outside IPEd speak at the ABM. My summary of Claire’s talk is in this month’s Gatherings and you can purchase the recording via the IPEd website.

In November, we will be hearing from James Fuller about small business accounting for Aotearoa editors. James is keen to answer your questions, so come prepared or feel free to email questions to me beforehand. When James and I were setting up the event, I asked how many house plants I could claim as a business expense, so do bring whatever accounting questions are on your mind. (His answer: just be sensible about it.)

Ngā mihi

Deborah
